acoustic guitar rock by singer and songwriter ben bruce

honest songs, honestly sung

This hand-drawn image is inspired by Letter to a Young Poet, written by William Carlos Williams, in which he describes how all our efforts as writers and as men must be to release the enchained dragon within us.

Strike Twice

I’ve never had my hipster credentials
it’s essential that you know I never will
lightning may strike twice where I’m standing
But so far I’m here and I’m singing still

I may not have my guitar mastered
but if I wait until I do
lightning may strike twice where I am standing
and I’ll never sing my song to you

You may say this song has a simple progression
my confession is I wrote it purposefully that way
‘cause lightning may strike twice where I’m standing
and I don’t have time to waste doing it your way
