The Unback
The unback is unlike the comeback in that the artist in question hasn’t ever left the scene; but they are still embarking on a ‘back of some kind.
A good example of this is John Mayer — of “Your Body is a Wonderland” rock-lite fame — who reworked his band, his image, and his sound, returning to the stage as a bluesman.
Based on reviews of his latest album, “Continuum” [ read one ], his Unback was a success, and notched him up a few points in my book.
