Hey everybody,

Thanks again to everyone who came to the Lone Microphone! We had — for the first time in history — a tie, which required a “song-off” (of course).

Olivia! De. La. Cruz! and Justin Kausal-Hayes both got to play one more song, and then the winner (JKH) was determined by audience acclaim. Andrew Vait also played an amazing set — he used JKH’s loop/record pedal and within a minute had built a song, layering a drumbeat, rhythm guitar, guitar texture all into the loop, and then playing his guitar lead and singing over it. Incredible.1

The next Lone Microphone is January 19 at Marcus’ Martini Heaven. We will be bringing more amazing performers together for another audio battle over Seattle’s highest honor.

In other news, I found a weird … I don’t even know what to call it. I searched for “Ben Bruce” on Youtube, and there were tons of videos of people yelling “Ben Bruce!” Check out my blog post on the topic (http://www.benbruce.com/scraps/-one-two-three-ben-bruce--) or watch the compilation video here:

Finally, it’s amazing to think that this will be the last issue of the Bruceletter for 2009. It’s been a great year in some ways and very difficult in others. But that just sounds like a description of life. :)

As we draw this year to a close I wish you happy holidays and the warmth of friends and family and home and hearth. I will be storing up energy for what I hope to be a seminal year in my life — my 33 on this go-round and looking to be my very best. I hope yours is, too.

“Tender, nicely composed songs recalled John Denver and particularly Assembly of Dust’s Reid Genauer, who Bruce strongly resembled in both voice and all-out-there-on-the-stage delivery. Telling stories about faces in the fire with blinding insight and singing simple songs full of tender vibrations, Bruce showed himself a tunesmith to keep an eye on.” — Dennis Cook, Jambase.com
