Hey everybody!

Summer is here; I hope you had a fun Solstice weekend. We went to see some dear friends and their new baby in Leavenworth. I love Leavenworth. Not just because of this trip either — I’ve loved that town since I first pulled up to the curb and two people in lederhosen¹ walked by our car. We tried to go to the beer garden for bratwurst but it was a really nice day and the whole town was too crowded. So we just went home and made brats and drank beer. Perfect!

There is a lot going on. In July (this Thursday) I have a First Thursday show — my first at the Owl and Thistle Pub² so please come check it out (kids are welcome until 10pm, but unfortunately I’m not going to start until 9pm) — and a set at the Bite of Seattle (the biggest event I’ve ever been a part of!). In August I’m playing at the greatest festival in the Northwest. More on all of these events below (or here: http://www.benbruce.com/shows/).

Which brings me to some sad news: Marcus’ Martini Heaven is closing its doors (hence the move to the Owl, if you noticed). There are two Lone Microphone events scheduled for July 13 and August 24 at Marcus’ Martini Heaven, so these will either be rescheduled at or moved to another venue. More information on that as soon as I have the details. This is sad — MMH has been my musical home for over a year now, and they have done a lot to support live local music.

Something happy is that I set up a home studio, which I wrote about here: http://www.benbruce.com/scraps/home-studio. I’m going to be able to focus a little more on the songwriting and recording aspect than the performance in the next year so this is a big step for me.

I guess I’ve been on a writing tear lately, because I have one more blog post that is just a funny true story called “My Grumpiness vs. His Grumpiness”: http://www.benbruce.com/scraps/my-grumpiness-vs-his-grumpiness. I love this line: “For a brief moment my grumpiness battled his grumpiness like minor gods in the ether.” Let me know what you think!

Summer Meltdown (Aug 68)

I don’t know when my set is yet but I’ll be there the whole weekend because it’s awesome (and I’m one of the producers :). Check it out: http://www.summermeltdown.com

That’s all for now!

¹ I don’t really know about lederhosen. I think they were lederhosen but they might have been Bundhosen. The point is — and this has been proven to me again and again — Leavenwurstians really commit to their Bavarian nature. I love them for it. I think they should change the name of their town to Lebenswurst, which roughly translated means “sausage life.”

² “The Owl” as it’s sometimes known is Seattle’s best Irish Pub. They have a great stage and a long history of supporting local music, and I’d love to impress them!
