I’ve decided to publicize a list of such places. I don’t have any firm definitions here, but the business model should essentially be: musicians are paid a wage for their performance, not their crowd.

It’s really a simple premise: you like live music; you go out drinking sometimes with your friends; keep these places in mind1. I haven’t really begun in earnest yet, but I’ve decided to publicize a list of such places on the theory that all things being equal, as music fans we might be more inclined to spend our money at these venues.

1 I wrote a post a while back about an upcoming gig, and I pointed out that something you may not know about the Owl ‘n Thistle is that they pay their musicians a fair wage whether or not you — the audience — are there. Something else you may not know is that is very rare in Seattle. It’s something special. It’s something you as a music fan might want to support. Give them your money — remember, you vote with your dollars. And the best part is, the Owl ‘n Thistle is a great place to hang out! (http://owlnthistle.com/).
