Hey everybody!

The big news is the Lone Microphone tomorrow night (Tuesday, 9pm), with Corey Passons (Spanish for 100), Hunter Hendrickson (Buzz Bromp and Spare Rib and The Bluegrass Sauce) and Sarah Schmidt, with me as your humble host. Come down to Pioneer Square and help us determine who is the winner!

Speaking of the Lone Microphone, I’ve been reflecting on the event lately and wrote down some thoughts and some statistics. The short version: “I love Lone Microphone!” A fun post!

My next gig is July 1 at Marcus’ Martini Heaven, which happens to be First Thursday — the art galleries all serve wine and everybody who’s anybody comes down to Pioneer Square. I’ll let you in on a hipster secret, which is that the coolest folks all head downstairs to the Martini Bar to see and be seen. I’ll be down there starting at 7pm, with special guest Tom Hanny.

I had such a good time emceeing at Folklife Festival! I liked my tophat and tails and bright red ascot and blue jeans and sunglasses outfit so much I think I’m going to buy my own — if anyone has any pictures let me know. (And if you know another emcee who made the crowd cheer for the stage sponsor (Comcast), let me know that, too!) Great job by all the Summer Meltdown Showcase bands — Acorn Project, Yogoman Burning Band, Flowmotion and Panda Conspiracy.

Speaking of the Summer Meltdown, the lineup is finally final, and yes, the Presidents of the United States are headlining Friday night, and yes, Flowmotion is headlining Saturday night, and yes, Ivan Neville’s Dumstaphunk is headlining Sunday night, and yes, other bands include EOTO, the Mutaytor, the Mother Hips, Hot Buttered Rum and yours truly. “In most fundamental ways, this is a perfect festival” – Dennis Cook, JamBase

Now that summer is finally revving up, I feel like we’re all booked up and it’s going to go by in a flash! I hope you are enjoying yourself and getting out for some barbecues with friends because these are the times that sustain us.

See you tomorrow night!

– Ben
