Volume 13, Issue 1

Hey everybody,

We’ve got a big gig coming up this Friday, May 15 at the Columbia City Theater. The Theater is a wonderful venue, and there are lots of restaurants nearby in Columbia City [1] (a mile south of I-90 on Rainier Avenue). There are three other great bands on the bill, and you get tickets for less than a large popcorn at the movie theater (tickets are $10). I should get on stage around 10:00pm. I hope to see you there!

In other news, this is a little personal but I paid taxes on my music for the first time in 2014 ($3!). This is a major milestone in a musician’s career. Onward and upward! I also submitted my latest album to music libraries which are companies that license music to TV, radio, etc. This is sort of a random chance but it still feels pretty cool.

I’ve been working on some new music. I’ve got a bunch of songs that are in a good state that just need to be polished, and I’ve got a music space that’s all mine where I can do that polishing, but I haven’t gotten set up yet and I’m too tired to do anything. But I will have something demoed for the next Bruceletter!

I wrote a biography for Cracker Factory, a great band in Seattle. Check out their new album, releasing in June: https://crackerfactory.bandcamp.com/album/chasing-ghosts

That’s all for now. This sure feels like a rough time in the world, but I believe in spending my energy where it can have the greatest impact. For me that’s with my family and my music, and for you it might be something different altogether. Whatever it is, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the spring.

Footnotes:

  1. I’ve always loved making up nicknames for places. My absolute favorite was the NoBoCoSho — you know, the North Boulder Coffee Shop. But my current effort is getting people to call Columbia City CoCi. Let’s do this!
  2. This looks worse than it was! We were having fun! In fact, the moment we recorded was after we stopped and he asked if we could do it some more. And I said, yes, yes we can.
