Wow — it’s been too long! There are so many reasons1, but really, who cares? As long as it’s a beautiful autumn (it is) and we’re all doing fine (we are, I hope), then let’s not make a big deal out of it and just enjoy the weather.

I’ve been building lots of fires in our fireplace — with wood I chopped with a maul, natch — but that same wood is both green and hard, so the fires are hard to get started and keep petering out. There’s a metaphor in there somewhere2, I’m sure, but really I’m just saying this is my favorite season of the year — it’s a good time for writing songs.

In fact, I’ve got a few new ones I’m working on: “Another Love Song,” “Shadow of a Woman and a Man Gone Down”2 and “Let Me Burn.” One is a dark drama, one is rocking blues and one is a love song — can you tell which is which?

Some lyrics are here: http://www.benbruce.com/songs/. I’m going to debut “Another Love Song” and “Let Me Burn” on Nov. 18 at the Owl N’ Thistle. I’ll be playing with the amazing Sarah Schmidt — come check it out!

There’s also the first-ever Meltdown Encore on Nov. 28. I’m honored to play this event with Levi Ware and an Allstar Jam (members of Flowmotion and special guests) — plus a timelapse movie of Summer Meltdown, a slideshow and more.

There’s a second Meltdown Encore in Bellingham, on Dec. 5, featuring Andrew Vait Solo, & FLOWMOTION Unplugged.

The next few months are going to be crazy. There’s going to be more love; the only way to be big enough for it all is to grow. I hope you stay well. Until next time,

– Ben

1 The Summer Meltdown sucked all the energy out of the room … Marcus’ Martini Heaven closed, which shouldn’t have effected me so much but did … We are having a baby.

2 I did find a metaphor in a recent experience with harvesting potatoes. You can read more here: http://www.benbruce.com/blog/just-keep-digging/.

3 Actually, my son — five-and-a-half-years-old! — and I are working on this one together. Seriously. He gives me great snippets of lyric, and he’s also come up with some great band names. Recently he said there should be a band called “The Beardeds” which I think is so awesome. I edited it to “The Beards” and my wife said, “And they all have moustaches.” Perfect.
